“Reliable, sweet and… amazing.” That is how Yasmin Westerink describes her 14-year-old gelding, Amphitryon Old. She has just delivered an outstanding test in the Young Riders class, continuing her winning streak. With a score of 71,078, she managed to leave German rider Lana-Pinou Baumgürtel with Zinq Escalla Old FH and fellow Dutch rider Anniek van Dulst behind her, who secured second and third place with 69,902% and 69,608%, respectively.
Cool as a Cucumber
“I can ride Alfie into any arena, no matter how impressive, and he always stays calm. Today was no exception: he was so focused on me and totally unfazed by the whole entourage. My goal today was simply to enjoy the ride. Not too much pressure, just really have fun. And that worked out perfectly! We were able to ride a really nice test, and I’m very happy with it.”
Moving Up to the U25
When we ask Yasmin about her future plans, she tells us that she will continue training and hopes things will keep going as well as they are now. “This year I want to stay in the Young Riders for a bit longer and then make the step up to the U25. Hopefully it will go just as smoothly as it is going now!”
