The CDI1 Prix St. Georges at The Dutch Masters saw a Dutch winner. Dinja van Liere rode a convincing test and claimed victory with her nine-year-old stallion Mclaren Old N.O.P.T. With her strong performance, she finished ahead of Charlotte Fry and Marieke van der Putten, who placed second and third respectively.*
Van Liere was visibly pleased with her ride in the Brabanthallen. "I was truly enjoying myself throughout," the rider said afterward. "Mclaren is so sweet and always gives his all, which makes it wonderful to ride. He clearly feels comfortable at The Dutch Masters; he finds everything here fun and lively. For me, it actually feels like a very relaxed weekend," she laughs.
Although Mclaren is still relatively young for the highest level, the stallion shows promising development. According to Van Liere, he is, at home, nearly ready for the next step. "At home, Mclaren is actually almost Grand Prix-ready, so the Intermediate I tests go very easily for him now. Tomorrow the freestyle is on the program and I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully we can finish the weekend in the same way."
Stallions Dominate the Podium
The Prix St. Georges podium was entirely occupied by stallions. Charlotte Fry guided her eight-year-old Ilegro to second place, while Marieke van der Putten with the ten-year-old About You RS2 secured third position.
The top five was completed by Kris de Vries with Lexington and Thamar Zweistra with Hexagon's Miamanda. With this strong start to the Intermediate I Tour, the dressage program at The Dutch Masters promises even more high-level sport in the coming days.
